74q: A Dozen Verses that Explain Salvation
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 5:24 “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.”
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Romans 3:23,24 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 2:8,9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
1 John 5:11-13 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
These verses provide a simple explanation of salvation:
- The Bible says we can know that we have eternal life. 1 John 5:13
- God loves us. John 3:16
- Man sins and falls short of God's standards. Romans 3:23; James 2:10
- The resulting consequence of our sin is death and eternal condemnation.
Romans 6:23; John 5:24; 1 John 5:12
- There is nothing we can do to save ourselves. Ephesians 2:8,9
- But God has provided us salvation as a free gift. Ephesians 2:8, Romans 6:23
- Jesus paid our death penalty for us. To accept this payment we only need to believe in Christ for our salvation,
instead of our own strength.
